The first batch of American Idol’s Top 12 was announced on Wednesday.
Danny Gokey, a 28-year-old church music director from Milwaukee; Michael Sarver, a 27-year-old oil rig worker from Jasper Texas; and Alexis Grace, a 21-year-old single mother from Memphis, Tennessee are going on to the next round through after receiving over 24 million viewer votes.
Tatiana Del Toto, 28, — whom Simon Cowell called a “drama queen” after her Tuesday performance — didn’t make the cut.
“It’s up to America,” she told host Ryan Seacrest before hearing she was voted off. “It’s up to the power of love.”
Fan favorite Anoop Desai lost to Sarver by just 20,000 votes.
Next week, 12 more semifinalists will compete for another three spots in the Top 12. But those voted off still have a chance; after nine finalists are picked by viewer votes, the judges will select the final three contestants in a wild card round that airs on March 5.
